Call emergency services immediately if you experience a PAF episode accompanied by severe chest pain, shortness of breath, or signs of a stroke (sudden weakness or numbness on one side of the body, difficulty speaking, confusion). These symptoms indicate a serious complication requiring rapid intervention.
Other Reasons for Urgent Care
Seek immediate medical attention if your PAF episode lasts longer than 30 minutes, or if you experience recurrent episodes despite medication. Rapid heart rate (palpitations) causing significant discomfort or dizziness also warrants prompt medical evaluation. Don’t hesitate to contact your doctor or go to the emergency room if you are unsure about the severity of your symptoms.
If your regular medication isn’t managing your PAF effectively, and you notice worsening symptoms or frequent episodes, contact your physician. Changes in medication might be necessary.
