Monitoring Treatment Progress and When to Contact Your Doctor

Track your symptoms daily. Note any improvement or worsening of your cough, fever, or congestion. A decrease in symptoms within 2-3 days suggests the amoxicillin is working. However, continued high fever (over 101°F or 38.3°C) after 48 hours, worsening symptoms, or the development of a new rash requires immediate medical attention.

When to Seek Immediate Medical Advice

Contact your doctor or seek immediate medical care if you experience any of the following: severe allergic reaction (difficulty breathing, swelling of the face, lips, or tongue), persistent vomiting or diarrhea leading to dehydration, severe abdominal pain, or a new or worsening rash. Also, contact your doctor if your symptoms haven’t improved after 7-10 days of treatment. They may need to adjust your medication or investigate other potential causes.

Monitoring for Side Effects

Amoxicillin can cause side effects like nausea, diarrhea, and stomach upset. If these are mild, they may subside as your body adjusts. However, persistent or severe gastrointestinal issues warrant a call to your doctor. Report any unusual symptoms, such as changes in urine or stool color, or severe skin reactions.
