Check the temperature. Was it a cool, indoor environment (around 70°F or 21°C), or was it exposed to direct sunlight or extreme heat? If it was relatively cool and dry, the medication likely remains safe to use. If it was extremely hot or humid, discard it.
Look for visual cues. Examine the amoxicillin carefully. Any significant change in color, texture, or the appearance of unusual clumps or separation suggests degradation. Discard the medication if you notice any of these changes. A change in smell also warrants discarding.
When in doubt, throw it out. Amoxicillin is a prescription medication, and using potentially degraded medication could hinder your recovery or even lead to complications. Your health is paramount. If you have any uncertainty about its condition, it’s always best to obtain a fresh prescription.
